Beautiful end of summer / beginning of fall weather at the Potholes Reservoir. The walleye bite has been pretty consistent all year long. I joined my buddy Todd Switzer for a couple of days on the water. In previous years we’ve only gotten into the typical 15 to 20 inch walleye. It was nice to catch a couple big females this trip.
Potholes Reservoir has a lot of fishing opportunities including walleye, smallmouth/largemouth bass, trout, perch, catfish and crappie. Many of these fish were caught close to Mardon Resort. A great body of water to experience on a kayak.
Presentations include using a Bottom Walker with a worm harness spinner worm combo. Troll it slow along the bottom and focus on ledges and drop offs. Less rockier areas, blade baits can be effective or dragging crank baits along the bottom with a down rigger or lead-core line.
On Saturday I had a chance to sit down with Tom & Rob of ESPN 710AM’s The Outdoor Line to discuss the trip. Listen to it here:
